Veteran Dan Haren, who will be making his first playoff start since 2006, will take the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night when they face 23-year-old Shelby Miller and the St. Louis Cardinals.

This year was Dan Haren's first with the Dodgers and he had his best year since 2011. In 32 starts, he went 13-11 with a 4.02 ERA and a 1.177 WHIP, and he struck out seven batters per nine innings while only walking 1.7 batters per nine innings. In five September starts, he was 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA and opposing batters hit just .176 against him.

In his one start against the Cardinals earlier this season, Haren took the loss after giving up three runs in just 4.2 innings of work. Jhonny Peralta is 9-for-30 against Haren in his career with a double and two RBI.

Shelby Miller wasn't as solid this season as he was in 2013, but he still had a pretty good year for the Cardinals. In 31 starts, he went 10-9 with a 3.74 ERA, but his strikeout rate dipped quite a bit from 8.8 strikeouts per nine innings in 2013 to 6.2 per nine innings this season. Miller finished the year on fire by going 2-0 with a 1.48 ERA in his final five starts.

Miller made one start against the Dodgers this season and ended up losing after giving up six runs in five innings. First baseman Adrian Gonzalez has four hits in seven plate appearances against Miller with a home run and four RBI.
