Hyun-Jin Ryu (2-1) hopes for better success against the Giants than the last time out on April 4th. In that outing he threw 69 pitches in just two innings while allowing 6 runs and getting the early yank. San Francisco pitcher Ryan Vogelsong (0-0) hopes for similar run support in this outing as the 36-year-old is in danger of losing his spot in the rotation after two mundane starts to begin the year.
Ryu got knocked around against the Giants and it's a similar story to his career against San Francisco. Through 6 lifetime starts the pitcher is just 2-3 against San Francisco, allowing 19 runs in 34 innings while walking 13 batters, the most of any team he's faced in the majors. Giants OF Angel Pagan is hitting over .400 in 2014 and that number could improve if he maintains his .625 lifetime average against Ryu.
Vogelsong hasn't been docked a loss yet this season but by no work of his own. The pitcher has given up 4 runs in two starts and has only pitched 9 total innings, taxing the Giant bullpen. One of Vogelsong's two starts came against the Dodgers in his opening start of the season. The Giants got out to an 8-0 lead after two innings but Vogelsong couldn't get through the 5th to get the win, instead throwing 94 pitches through 4 innings and giving up back-to-back home runs to Andre Ethier and Adrian Gonzalez.
The Dodgers roster has 130 career AB's against Vogelsong with a cumulative .277 batting average. Juan Uribe (.429), Dee Gordon (.350), and Matt Kemp (.318) have all had success in double-digit AB's against Vogelsong in their careers.
