Sunday afternoon, Josh Beckett and the Los Angeles Dodgers will take on A.J. Burnett and the Philadelphia Phillies.  Beckett will make his 9th start as Burnett makes his 11th in this battle of veteran right-handers.

Josh Beckett improved his record to 2 – 1 with an ERA of 2.89 after getting the win in his last start.  In that outing, Beckett allowed 4 runs on 8 hits in 5 innings of work.  He walked 2 while striking out 6.  He has already picked up more wins than in 2013 when he was 0 – 5 with a 5.19 ERA in 8 starts.

Burnett evened his record to 3 – 3 with an ERA of 3.32 after getting a win in his last outing.  In that start, Burnett went 5 innings and allowed 3 runs on 3 hits while walking 4 and striking out 5.  Burnett is basically posting the same numbers this year that he showed in 2013 en route to a 10 - 11 record and an ERA of 3.30 in 30 starts with the Pittsburgh Pirates.  

Last season, Burnett lost his only start against the Dodgers despite a solid outing where he allowed just a run on 4 hits in 5.1 innings of work.  This season, he pitched to a no decision against the Dodgers after giving up just 2 runs on 6 hits in 6.2 innings of work.
