Saturday afternoon, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Dan Haren will face the Philadelphia Phillies and David Buchanan.  Haren will be making his 10th start of the season as Buchanan makes his Major League debut.

Dan Haren saw his record fall to 5 – 2 and his ERA rise slightly to 3.18 after taking a loss in his last outing.  In that start, Haren allowed 5 runs on 10 hits (including 2 homers) in 6 innings of work.  Haren didn’t issue any walks as he struck out 3.  Despite the loss, Haren is still on track to post better results than he did in 2013 when he went 10 – 14 with a save and an ERA of 4.67 in 30 starts and 1 relief appearance for the Washington Nationals.

Last season, Haren was 1-1 with a 4.13 ERA in 4 starts against the Phillies.  This season, Haren pitched to a no decision against Philadelphia after allowing 3 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings. 

David Buchanan will make his debut in the big leagues after getting called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.  With Cliff Lee going on the 15 Day DL with a strained left elbow, Buchanan will get a chance to show if he is up the handling big league batters.  In the minors this season, Buchanan went 5 – 1 with an ERA of 3.98 in 9 starts.  

Without any Major League experience, Buchanan will have to rely on any information he can glean from the scouting report and the rest of the pitching staff to devise a plan of action against the Dodgers.
