On Friday, the Los Angeles Dodgers will face the Philadelphia Phillies in the first meeting of a three game series. The Dodgers will give the start to Clayton Kershaw while the Phillies will send Roberto Hernandez to the mound.

Kershaw is coming of his first loss of the season when he started against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday. He would love to forget his last start as he gave up seven earned runs in just 1.2 innings over six hits. The loss put Kershaw’s record at 2-1 and made his ERA balloon up to 4.43. However, it won’t come easy as Kershaw has struggled at times when facing the Phillies.

Current Philadelphia hitters hold a .294 batting average against Kershaw. Carlos Ruiz is 5-for-13 against Kershaw in his career while Chase Utley is 5-for-18 with two doubles, a home run and a RBI against Kershaw.

Roberto Hernandez will get his first start since May 9. In the meantime, Hernandez has come out of the bullpen for a couple appearances. In his last start, Hernandez pitched five innings only giving up one run on six hits. He currently holds a 2-1 record with a 3.98 ERA and will be looking to add to his total of wins when facing the Dodgers on Friday.

Juan Uribe has played well when facing Hernandez. Uribe is 5-for-13 in his career against Hernandez with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI.
