Tuesday night, Josh Beckett and the Los Angeles Dodgers will take on Rafael Montero and the New York Mets.  Beckett will be making his 8th start of the year as Montero makes his 2nd career start.

Josh Beckett got his 1st win of the season in his last outing and that evened his record at 1 - 1 with a 2.38 ERA.  Beckett looked great as he allowed just a run on 4 hits in 6.1 innings of work.  He issued 3 walks while striking out 6.  2013 was tough for Beckett as he went 0 – 5 with a 5.19 ERA in 8 starts.

Last season, Beckett didn’t face the Mets and his experience against the roster is limited to 7 batters.  But Curtis Granderson is 11 of 37 including 2 triples, 3 home runs and 5 RBIs against Beckett. 

Rafael Montero lost his Major League debut after allowing 3 runs on 5 hits (including 2 home runs) in 6 innings.  Montero walked 2 and struck out 2.  The start gave him a 0 – 1 record and an ERA of 4.50.        

Until he gets more innings of work under his belt, every team he faces will be a new experience for Montero.  The next few weeks will undoubtedly be spent studying a lot of scouting reports and watching the rest of the rotation work.
