Saturday night, Paul Maholm will get the ball for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they face Jacob Turner and the Miami Marlins.  Maholm will make his 5th start (and 8th appearance) of the season as Turner makes his 2nd start.

Paul Maholm got his first win of the season in his last start that took his record to 1 - 2 and lowered his ERA to 4.74.  In that outing, Maholm allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 7 innings with a walk and 3 strikeouts.   Last season with the Atlanta Braves, Maholm went 10 – 11 with an ERA of 4.41 in 26 starts.

In 2013, Maholm didn’t start against the Marlins but he knows the lineup well.  Miami’s Reed Johnson is batting a lusty .533 against Maholm with 8 hits (3 of them doubles) in 15 at-bats. 

Jacob Turner returns to the starting rotation from the disabled list after suffering a right shoulder sprain in early April.  He made 2 solid rehab starts at the Marlin’s Class-A affiliate in Jupiter and feels ready to rejoin the big league club.  In his only major league start this season, he surrendered 5 runs on 8 hits (including a homer) in 6 innings with 3 walks and a strikeout.  Last season, Turner was 3 – 8 with an ERA of 3.74 in 20 starts.

In 2013, Turner didn’t get a decision in his only start against the Dodgers.  In that start, he gave up 4 runs on 10 hits in just 5 innings as he issued 5 walks without getting a single strikeout.  The 6 current Dodger batters that have faced him have fared well against the right-hander.  Adrian Gonzalez is 2 of 3 with a double and an RBI against Turner.
