Tuesday night, Josh Beckett and the Los Angeles Dodgers will take on Mike Leake and the Cincinnati Reds.  Beckett will be making his 12th start as Leake makes his 13th.

Josh Beckett lost his second straight game in his last start and that dropped his record to 3 – 3 with a 2.57 ERA.   In that outing, Beckett surrendered just 2 runs (on 2 solo homers) on 9 hits in 6 innings as he walked 2 and struck out 6.  Without sufficient run support, Beckett got the loss.  In an injury shortened season in 2013, Beckett was 0 – 5 with an ERA of 5.19 in 8 starts.

Last season, Beckett didn’t face the Reds but he has seen a few of their hitters in the past.  Cincinnati’s Jack Hannahan is just 2 of 9 against Beckett but he has a home run and 3 RBIs against the veteran right-hander. 

Mike Leake saw his record drop to 3 – 5 with a 3.29 ERA after he took the loss his last time out.  In that start, Leake pitched 5 innings and surrendered 5 runs (on 2 homers) and 8 hits while walking 1 and striking out 6.  The two home runs were the first for Leake since he gave up 3 in his start on April 26th.  Leak has allowed 8 homers this season compared to 21 homers last season when he went 14 - 7 with a 3.37 ERA in 31 starts.

In 2013, Leake won his only start against the Dodgers after allowing 2 runs on 5 hits (including a homer) in 7.2 innings.  The Dodgers have hit Leake well in the past but he will definitely need to look out for Andre Ethier. Ethier is 5 of 12 with 2 home runs and 5 RBIS against the young right-hander.
