Saturday afternoon, the Los Angeles Dodgers will send Roberto Hernandez (8 – 11, 4.06 ERA) to the mound to take on the Chicago Cubs and Felix Doubront (4 – 5, 5.00 ERA).    Hernandez makes his 28th start and 31st appearance while Doubront makes his 14th start and 21st appearance.

Roberto Hernandez didn’t factor into the decision in his last appearance after a short outing.  Hernandez pitched just 3.2 innings and surrendered 2 runs and 6 hits (including a homer) as he walked 2 batters and struck out 1.  Hernandez has had trouble keeping the opposition off the scoreboard in recent outings and has allowed 12 runs in 11 innings of work.  He is 4 -3 in his last 10 appearances.  In 2013, Hernandez went 6-13-1 with a 4.89 ERA in 24 starts and 8 relief appearances for the Tampa Bay Rays.

Hernandez didn’t face the Cubs in 2013 but he has seen them twice this season.  In 2 encounters against Chicago, Hernandez is 1 - 1.       

Felix Doubront was solid his last trip to the hill and his performance earned him the victory.  In the win, Doubront threw 6 shutout innings and allowed just 4 hits and a walk while striking out a batter.  He is 2 -1 in his 3 starts for the Cubs after coming over from the Boston Red Sox.   Last season, Doubront went 11 – 6 with a 4.32 ERA in 27 starts and 2 relief appearances for the Red Sox. 

Doubront didn’t face the Dodgers in 2013 and he has only seen 5 of the Los Angeles hitters before. Matt Kemp is 1 for 3 with an RBI against Doubront.
