Thursday afternoon, the Los Angeles Dodgers will give the ball to Roberto Hernandez (6 – 8, 3.83 ERA) as they take square off against the Atlanta Braves and Aaron Harang (9 – 6, 3.31 ERA).  Hernandez makes his 22nd start and 25th appearance as Harang makes his 25th start.

Roberto Hernandez didn’t get the decision in his first start for Dodgers after getting traded from the Philadelphia Phillies.  But it wasn’t a bad outing for Hernandez as he surrendered 2 runs and 3 hits in 6 innings of work.  He didn’t issue any walks while striking out 5.  Hernandez is finally pitching well and is 3 – 0 in his last 5 starts.   Last season, Hernandez was 6 – 13 with a save and an ERA of 4.89 in 24 starts and 8 relief appearances for the Tampa Bay Rays.

In 2013, Hernandez didn’t face the Braves but he has 3 starts already against Atlanta this season.  Hernandez is 1 -1 in those starts.

Aaron Harang pitched to his 5th straight no-decision in his last start. In that outing, he allowed just a run (on a solo home run) and 7 hits in 7 innings of work.  He walked 2 and struck out 2. In those 5 no-decisions, Harang allowed more than 2 runs only once and just didn’t get the run support needed to post victories.  Even with the no-decisions, Harang is 4 -1 in his last 10 starts. Last season, Harang was 5 – 12 with a 5.40 ERA in 26 starts for the Seattle Mariners and the New York Mets.

In 2013, Harang didn’t face the Dodgers but he had a start against them a little over 2 weeks ago.  He didn’t get the decision in that one after allowing 4 runs and 9 hits (including a homer) in 6 innings.
