Two familiar division foes square off as the Diamondbacks take on the Dodgers Saturday, but this game is played nowhere near Arizona or Chavez Ravine as the MLB tries to expand it's international reach with a Sydney, Australia opening series. Folks back on the West Coast can enjoy the 1AM PT opening day first pitch as they extend their late Friday night.

If the MLB wanted to showcase their talents to an international audience they picked a perfect ambassador in Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw. As expected the 2011 and 2013 Cy Young award winner makes his fourth consecutive opening day start for the Dodgers. Kershaw was rewarded for his diligence in the offseason signing a $215 million dollar contract but it hasn't transformed into much success this spring. The lefty ace was toting an 18.00 ERA coming into his last start of the spring before allowing only 2 runs in 5 innings of work against the Giants.

Arizona finished 11 games behind the Dodgers in the 2013 NL West standings. They'll look to get off to a good start down under to set the tone for a more successful 2014. Left handed pitcher Wade Miley lifts the lid on the season by getting his first career opening day start. Miley's start comes unexpectedly after proposed starter Patrick Corbin was likely lost for the season with a partial tear of his ulnar collateral ligament. Miley had a successful spring, allowing only 2 earned runs in 14 innings pitched. He'll look to build on a 10-10 record a year ago in front of an expected 40,000 in attendance.
