Right-hander Matt Shoemaker (14-4) will try to extend his undefeated streak to seven games for the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night when they face Nick Tepesch (4-9) and the Texas Rangers.

Matt Shoemaker could only make it through four innings against the Minnesota Twins last week, but he ended up with a no decision rather than a loss. He gave up three runs on six base hits in that outing while walking three batters and striking out two. Shoemaker now has a 3.25 ERA on the season and he has struck out 117 batters in 121.2 innings of work.

Rangers outfielder Leonys Martin has five hits in seven plate appearances against Shoemaker with two doubles and no strikeouts. Veteran Alex Rios is just 1-for-6 against him in his career with no walks and two strikeouts.

Second-year starter Nick Tepesch lost for the ninth time this year when he was beaten by the Kansas City Royals on the road last week. He went 6.2 innings in that start and gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out one and walking zero. Tepesch has a 4.41 ERA this season and he has only been able to strike out 48 batters in 104 innings.

Angels superstar Mike Trout is 3-for-7 against Tepesch in his career with a double and a solo home run. Kole Calhoun is just 1-for-9 against him with a home run and a strikeout.
