On Friday night, Jered Weaver (18-8) will attempt to win his fourth game in a row when he and the Los Angeles Angels face off against Hisashi Iwakuma (14-9) and the Seattle Mariners.

Jered Weaver gave up three runs in seven innings of work versus the Texas Rangers in his last start and picked up his 18th win of the year. He allowed five base hits in that outing and walked one batter while striking out seven. Weaver has a 3.52 ERA on the season and he has only given up eight hits per nine innings.

Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak is 10-for-34 against Weaver in his career with three doubles, three home runs and eight RBI. Veteran Endy Chavez is just 3-for-20 against him with two walks and five strikeouts.

Last Sunday, Hisashi Iwakuma lost his third consecutive start when he was beaten by the Houston Astros on the road. He gave up four runs in 4.1 innings of work that day while walking three hitters and striking out eight. Iwakuma has struck out 150 batters in 172.2 innings this season and he now has a 3.54 ERA.

Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick has eight hits off of Iwakuma in 21 at-bats with four doubles and an RBI. MVP candidate Mike Trout is just 4-for-23 against him in his career with two walks and seven strikeouts.
