On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Angels will travel to Citizens Bank Park to take on the Philadelphia Phillies in interleague play. The Angels will send Garrett Richards to the mound and the Phillies will counter with A.J. Burnett. It will be the final game in a short two game series.

Richards is coming off another stellar performance in which he pitched seven innings allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six and walking two. Richards didn’t get the decision on this night but he’ll have many more wins in his future if he keeps this pace up. Richards has struck out at least six players in each of his last four starts and is turning out to be one the best young pitchers in the league. Richards is coming into this game with a 3-0 record and a 2.80 ERA. This will be his first time facing the Phillies so we’ll get to see first hand if he can keep his good play going.

The Phillies are sending A.J. Burnett to the mound. Burnett is also have a solid year to date but had a rough outing in his last start against the Toronto Blue Jays. Burnett earned his second loss of the season after giving up six runs on nine hits. He struck out four and walked two while giving up three home runs in the game. Before this game, Burnett had four quality starts so this seems like somewhat of an aberration. He’ll get the chance to prove it on Wednesday.

Burnett has fared well against current Los Angeles batters and has only given up 21 hits in 101 at bats. He’s given up three home runs with two of these coming from Albert Pujols who is hitting .222 against Burnett with four hits and four RBIs.
