Friday evening, the Los Angeles Angels will give the ball to C.J. Wilson as they take on Hiroki Kuroda and the New York Yankees.  Both pitchers will be making their 5th starts of the season.

C.J. Wilson got his 2nd loss of the season after a rough 4th start of the season. In the outing, Wilson surrendered 4 runs on 7 hits (including 2 home runs) in just 5 innings.  He struck out 4 but he walked 3 as he threw 111 pitches.   With the loss, Wilson’s record fell to 2 – 2 with an ERA of 4.21.  Last season, Wilson went 17 – 7 with an ERA of 3.39 in 33 starts.

In 2013, Wilson was a perfect 2 – 0 with a 1.98 ERA in 2 starts against the Yankees.  New York’s Alfonso Soriano has faced Wilson only 9 times but he has 5 hits (including a homer) and 3 RBIS in those at-bats.

Hiroki Kuroda didn’t get the decision in his last start but his effort really wasn’t that bad.  In 5.2 innings of work, he allowed 3 runs on 7 hits in 5.2 innings.  Kuroda issued 2 walks with 2 strikeouts.  The biggest concern was that he threw 99 pitches in just 5.2 innings.  So far this season, Kuroda is 2 – 1 with an ERA of 4.07, which is the highest ERA of his career with the Yankees.  Last season, Kuroda was 11 – 13 with an ERA of 3.31.

In 2013, Kuroda won his only start against the Angels without allowing a single run.  He gave up just 3 hits in 8 innings while striking out 7 and walking 1.  Ian Stewart could be an issue for Kuroda as Stewart is 6 of 13 with 4 RBIs when facing the New York right-hander.
