On Friday night, Matt Shoemaker will be going for his third consecutive win when the Los Angeles Angels go up against veteran left-hander Jason Vargas and the Kansas City Royals.

Matt Shoemaker had one of his better starts of the year over the weekend against the Texas Rangers and was able to pick up his fifth win of the season. He went 7.2 innings in that outing and allowed just one run on eight hits while striking out six and walking two. Shoemaker is now 5-1 this season with a 3.42 ERA and he has struck out over a batter an inning through 12 starts.

Lorenzo Cain has gone up against Shoemaker three times and has a double, an RBI and a strikeout against him. Danny Valencia is 0-for-3 against him with two strikeouts.

Jason Vargas had to take a tough-luck loss against the Seattle Mariners last Saturday after pitching 8.2 strong innings against them. He allowed just two runs in the game and he walked no one while striking out two. Vargas now has a 7-3 record this season and he is only giving up 0.9 home runs per nine innings.

Angles first baseman Albert Pujols has six hits in his 19 at-bats against Vargas with two doubles, a triple, a home run and four RBI. Josh Hamilton is just 5-for-25 against him, but he has hit three home runs off of him.
