Saturday afternoon, the Los Angeles Angels and C.J. Wilson will face the Detroit Tigers and Max Scherzer.  Both Wilson and Scherzer will be making their fourth starts of the year.

C.J. Wilson comes into this one after back to back wins in his last 2 starts.  His last outing went 7 innings and he gave up 2 runs on 6 hits while walking 3 and striking out 9.   In 2013, Wilson posted a record of 17 - 7 with an ERA of 3.39 in 33 starts. 

Last season, Wilson had two starts against the Tigers and he came away with a 1 – 0 record and an ERA of 6.55.  In 11 innings, he allowed 8 runs on 12 hits.   Wilson will have to watch himself when facing Torii Hunter.  Hunter is 11 of 33 with 2 home runs and 8 RBIs against Wilson. 

2014 hasn’t been as kind to Max Scherzer as 2013 was.  He has a 0 – 1 record and an ERA of 2.70 coming into this start and his previous start had mixed results.  Scherzer struck out 10 but he gave up 4 runs on 4 hits in just 5 innings.  It just doesn’t look like the same Max Scherzer that went 21 - 3 with an ERA of 2.90 en route to a Cy Young Award in 2013.

In 2013, Scherzer didn’t face the Angels but he has seen many of the Los Angeles hitters in his career.  Chris Iannetta is batting .364 with a homer and 2 RBIs when facing Scherzer.
