Thursday afternoon, the Los Angeles Angels and Garrett Richards will face the Cleveland Indians and Zach McAllister.  Richards will make his 15th start as McAllister makes his 11th.

Garrett Richards pitched to a no-decision in his last outing and that held his record at 6 – 2 with a 2.87 ERA.  But it was a solid start for the young right-hander as he threw 6 scoreless innings and allowed just 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 10.  The 10 strikeouts were a career high.  In his last 3 starts, Richards has allowed just 1 run.  In 2013, he went 7 – 8 with a save and an ERA of 4.16 in 17 starts and 30 relief appearances.

Last season, Richards didn’t face the Indians and he has only seen 5 of the hitters in their lineup. Of those 5, only David Murphy and Nick Swisher have hits off of him.  Swisher is 1 for 3 while Murphy is 4 for 13.

Zach McAllister will be making his 1st start since May 21st after suffering a lower back strain.  He had a decent showing in his last rehab start and he will bring a 3 - 4 record with a 5.89 ERA into this start.  McAllister started the season with 3 straight wins but since then, he has lost 4 of his last 6 starts. Last season, he went 9 - 9 with a 3.75 ERA in 24 starts.

In 2013, McAllister won his only start against the Angels after allowing a run on 5 hits in 6.1 innings.  This season, he has a loss against the Angels after giving up 5 runs on 4 hits in 4.1 innings.
