Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Angels will take the field behind Matt Shoemaker as they face the Cleveland Indians and Josh Tomlin.  Shoemaker will be making his 6th start and 11th appearance as Tomlin makes his 8th start and 9th appearance.

Matt Shoemaker pitched just 1/3rd of an inning in relief his last time out and brings a 3- 1 record with a 4.19 ERA into this start.  Prior to his last appearance, Shoemaker pitched to a no-decision after 5 innings of work where he allowed 4 runs on 9 hits (including a home run).  Last season, Shoemaker started just 1 game for the Angels and he pitched 5 innings and allowed 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5 in that outing.

 Shoemaker has never pitched against the Indians and he will have to rely on the scouting report and any help he can get from the rest of the staff to decide on a plan of attack against the Tribe.

Josh Tomlin took the loss in his last outing and that lowered his record to 4 – 3 with a 3.33 ERA.  In that start, Tomlin surrendered 4 runs on 9 hits (including a home run) in 5.2 innings as he walked 2 and struck out 3.  Tomlin threw over 100 pitches for the 4th straight game and he is averaging over 100 pitches per start.  That many pitches could catch up to him later in the season especially since he pitched in just 1 game last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2012.

Tomlin has only faced 6 of the Angels in the past and only 2 of the 6 have hits off of him.  Brennan Boesch is 1 for 6 with an RBI against Tomlin while Howie Kendrick is 2 of 5 against the right-hander.
