Monday night, the Los Angeles Angels will take the field behind C.J. Wilson (9 – 8, 4.71 ERA) as they face the Boston Red Sox and Brandon Workman (1 – 6, 4.45 ERA). Wilson will make his 23rd start as Workman makes his 11th start and 15th appearance.

C.J. Wilson broke a 2 game losing streak by getting the victory in his last outing.  In the win, Wilson gave up 2 runs and 7 hits in 6.2 innings as he walked 2 and struck out 2.   Prior to the win, Wilson hadn’t tasted victory in over a month and a half and his stint on the disabled list (right ankle sprain) had a lot to do with that.  But he is still just 3 - 3 in his last 10 starts.   In 2013, Wilson started 33 games and finished the year with a 17 - 7 record and an ERA of 3.39. 

Last season, Wilson was 0 – 2 with a 3.09 ERA in 2 starts against the Red Sox.  Boston is batting .266 against Wilson with 29 hits, 2 homers and 13 RBIs in 109 at-bats.

Brandon Workman took his 6th straight loss in his last appearance.  It was just a relief appearance for Workman but he surrendered a solo homer to the only batter he faced to secure the loss for him.  Workman picked up his only victory back in early June and hasn’t found a way to win since.  In all of his losses as a starter, he has allowed at least 4 or more runs in each start.  Last season, Workman started 3 games and appeared in 17 more en route to a 6 -3 record and a 4.97 ERA.  

His last outing was the first time that Workman had faced the Angels and he only saw 1 batter.  Albert Pujols was that batter and he got the game winning solo homer.
