Second-year starter Matt Shoemaker will be making the start for the Los Angeles Angels when they face off against Aaron Harang and the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.

Right-hander Matt Shoemaker ended up with a no decision against the Chicago White Sox last Saturday after going five innings against them and allowing three earned runs. He gave up nine hits in that outing and struck out six while walking no one. On the season, Shoemaker is 3-1 and has struck out 34 batters in 34 innings of work.

The Braves will be going up against Shoemaker for the first time on Friday night. So far this year, he has held right-handed batters to just a .164 batting average in 55 at-bats.

Veteran Aaron Harang lost for the fifth time this season when he was beaten by the Arizona Diamondbacks on the road last weekend. He went six innings in that game and allowed three earned runs on four hits while striking out four and walking a season-worst six batters. Harang has a solid 3.33 ERA this season and has struck out 77 batters in 78.1 innings.

Angels first baseman Albert Pujols has done very well against the right-hander in his career, going 27-for-79 against him with six doubles, five home runs and 16 RBI. Center fielder Mike Trout is 7-for-15 against him with a triple and two RBI.
