Jeremy Guthrie will get the start for the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon when they face Seattle Mariners rookie Roenis Elias.

Jeremy Guthrie put together his best start of the season last Tuesday when he went eight strong innings against the San Diego Padres. He didn't pick up the win in the start, but he gave up just one run on four hits while striking out two and walking one. His ERA is down to 3.91 now, but he has just 23 strikeouts through 46 innings.

Robinson Cano has just 11 hits in 43 at-bats against Guthrie, but three of those hits were home runs. Justin Smoak is 5-for-15 against the right-hander in his career with three home runs and seven RBI.

Roenis Elias picked up his second straight win in his last start when he was able to beat the Oakland Athletics on the road. He went 6.1 innings in that outing and gave up three runs on five hits and struck out six while walking three. The rookie has a solid 3.27 ERA on the season and is striking out over eight batters per nine innings pitched. Left-handed hitters are hitting just .212 against him this season.

None of the Royals have faced Elias yet, so they will be seeing his 92-93 mph fastball and his fantastic 86 mph curveball for the first time.
