On Tuesday night, Jeremy Guthrie will try to pick up his first win since April 9 when the Kansas City Royals face Robbie Erlin and the San Diego Padres.

Jeremy Guthrie picked up his second loss of the season when he was defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays last week. The long ball hurt him in that game as two of the six hits against him were homers and he ended up giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out four in the outing. His 5 strikeouts per nine innings is right on par with his career numbers, but the hits are just falling a bit more this year than they did in 2013.

Xavier Nady may find himself in the lineup for the Padres because he is 3-for-7 against Guthrie in his career with a double and a home run.

Robbie Erlin's struggled continued when he picked up his fourth consecutive loss last Wednesday against the San Francisco Giants. He did go a season-high 6.2 innings in that game, but he didn't get much help from his offense and the three runs the Giants scored were enough to beat him. His ERA is still a high 5.83 and he has given up 34 hits in 29.1 innings.

None of the current Royals have faced Erlin, but they can expect to see a lot of his 90 mph fastballs and he will throw his highly-rated changeup about 15% of the time.
