James Shields will try to get his ninth win of the year for the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night when he goes up against fellow veteran Ricky Nolasco and the Minnesota Twins.

Last week, James Shields gave up four earned runs in seven innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers and he ended up with a no decision in a game the Dodgers eventually won 5-4. Shields gave up seven hits in that outing and struck out two while walking one. He currently has an 8-3 record and he has only walked 24 batters in 111.2 innings.

Twins second baseman Brian Dozier has seven hits in 20 at-bats against Shields in his career with three doubles, two home runs and seven RBI. Veteran Kendrys Morales has just one hit against the right-hander in 12 at-bats with two strikeouts.

Right-hander Ricky Nolasco had one of his worst starts of the year last week against the Los Angeles Angels and ended up losing for the sixth time this season. He allowed six earned runs on six innings in that game while striking out six and walking one. Nolasco is giving up 11.8 hits per nine innings, which is by far the worst rate of his career.

Royals veteran Omar Infante has five hits in 14 at-bats against Nolasco with a double and four RBI. Alcides Escobar is 5-for-9 against him with two doubles and no strikeouts.
