In Game 2 of the ALDS, right-hander Yordano Ventura will look to put his poor Wild Card performance behind him when he and the Kansas City Royals face Matt Shoemaker and the Los Angeles Angels.

Yordano Ventura did a good job holding down his spot in the Royals' rotation this season and finished it off with a solid September. In 30 starts this year, he went 14-10 with a 3.20 ERA and he struck out 7.8 batters per nine innings while only giving up 14 home runs in 183 innings of work. In his last six starts, he was 4-1 with a 2.41 ERA.

Ventura made one starts against the Angels this year and took the loss after giving up two runs on seven hits in four innings on the mound. Second baseman Gordon Beckham is 3-for-6 against the right-hander in his career with three singles and an RBI.

Matt Shoemaker had a great rookie campaign for the Angels and quickly moved up near the top of their rotation. In 20 starts, he went 16-4 with a solid 3.04 ERA and a 1.074 WHIP. In 136 innings of work, he struck out 124 hitters while only walking 1.6 batters per nine innings.

Shoemaker struggled in his two starts against the Royals this year, going 0-1 with a 10.00 ERA in nine innings of work. Outfielder Lorenzo Cain has four hits in six plate appearances versus Shoemaker with a double, a triple and two RBI.
