James Shields (13-7), who is coming off of one of his best starts of the year, will make the start for the Kansas City Royals when they take on Rick Porcello (15-10) and the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night.

Last weekend, James Shields pitched 8.1 scoreless innings against the New York Yankees on the road and was able to pick up the win. He gave up just three hits in that start and walked no one while striking out six. Shields has struck out 156 batters in 200.1 innings this year and he now has a 3.23 ERA.

Tigers star Miguel Cabrera is 19-for-50 against Shields in his career with eight doubles, two home runs and eight RBI. Outfielder Rajai Davis is just 2-for-18 against him with no walks and three strikeouts.

Rick Porcello lost his second start in a row last week when he was defeated by the San Francisco Giants at home. He pitched just three innings in that game and gave up six runs (five earned) on 10 hits while walking one batter and striking out one. He now has a 3.30 ERA on the season and he has only been able to strike out 110 batters in 183 innings.

Royals slugger Billy Butler has 16 hits in his 47 at-bats against Porcello with four doubles, a home run and eight RBI. Alcides Escobar is just 1-for-26 against him with no walks and five strikeouts.
