James Shields will be looking to continue his hot start to the season when he and the Kansas City Royals face Miguel Gonzalez and the Baltimore Orioles.

James Shields was able to pick up his second straight win when he beat the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night. He pitched six strong innings that outing and gave up just one earned run on six hits while striking out nine and walking just one. On the season, Shields is striking out 9.5 and walking just 1.9 per nine innings.

Shields and Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis have faced each other plenty of times over the years, with Markakis getting the best of the matchup with 20 hits in 66 at-bats. He has two home runs, five doubles and six RBI against the right-hander in his career.

Miguel Gonzalez dominated at times in his outing against the Toronto Blue Jays last Tuesday, but his command was a bit of an issue and he could only make it 5.2 innings into the game. He gave up two earned runs on just four hits while walking two and striking out seven in the no decision. Gonzalez now has a 5.40 ERA through 20 innings this season.

Alex Gordon has a triple and two RBI against Gonzalez, but that triple was his only hit off of him in six at-bats. Salvador Perez is the only Royal with a home run against the Orioles' right-hander.
