Friday night, the Kansas City Royals and Yordano Ventura will face the Baltimore Orioles and Ubaldo Jimenez.  It will be Ventura’s 4th start and Jimenez’s 5th. 

Yordano Ventura’s recorded fell to 1 – 1 after a disastrous start his last time out.  He went just 4 innings and allowed 4 runs on 6 hits.  Ventura had 6 strikeouts but issued 4 walks.  But overall, the right-hander is 1 – 1 with a 2.65 ERA and that isn’t bad for a pitcher in his 2nd major league season.  In 2013, Ventura 0 – 1 with an ERA of 3.52 in 3 starts.

Last season, Ventura didn’t face the Orioles and he has no experience against any of the Baltimore lineup.  With guidance from a good scouting report, he should be able to bounce back from his last start.

Ubaldo Jimenez is still seeking his first win of the season after 4 starts with a record of 0 - 3 and an ERA of 6.75.  In his last outing, Jimenez gave up 3 runs on 4 hits in 5.1 innings.  It wasn’t that bad of a start until he surrendered a 3 run homer.   In 2013, Jimenez was 13 – 9 with a 3.30 ERA in 32 starts with the Cleveland Indians.

Last season, Jimenez was 2 – 0 with an ERA of 2.83 in 5 starts against Kansas City.   Jimenez will need to pitch around Kansas City’s Eric Hosmer.  Hosmer is batting .364 against Jimenez with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs.
