In what should be one of the more intriguing matchups of Week 1, the AFC South champion Indianapolis Colts will visit the Denver Broncos, who won their division and made it to the Super Bowl last season.
The Indianapolis Colts, led by second-year quarterback Andrew Luck, won their division last year, but they were trounced by the Patriots in the second round of the playoffs. Their offense finished right around the middle of the league in yards gained, while they did well against the pass and had a tough time against the run.
The Colts will miss safety Antoine Bethea's presence on their defense, but center Phil Costa and linebacker D'Qwell Jackson were both considered solid free agent signings. The Colts didn't have a very good draft, but second-rounder Jack Mewhort should get some playing time on their offensive line.
The Denver Broncos may have been embarrassed in the Super Bowl by the Seattle Seahawks, but they will still be coming into the 2014 season as one of the favorites out of the AFC. The Broncos had the best passing game in the NFL in 2013 thanks to future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning, but their defense did have a tough time stopping opposing quarterbacks.
The Broncos lost key offensive players Zane Beadles and Eric Decker over the offseason, but they were able to add two key defensive backs on Aqib Talib and T.J. Ward.
