The Red-hot Seattle Mariners are looking to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2001 when they won 116 games and were led by a rookie from Japan named Ichiro. This year’s team doesn’t have the big names that their 2001 team had, but they have still turned it around in the second half of the season. They will welcome the Houston Astros to Safeco Field in what is a must-win game. The Mariners will send their former American League Cy Young pitcher Felix Hernandez (14-5) to take on the Astros and right-hander Brad Peacock (4-8).

Peacock will be making the his 22nd start of the season and will look to pick up consecutive wins in consecutive starts for the first time all season. In his last outing, he allowed 2 earned runs off 4 hits with 5 strikeouts in 6.1 innings against the Los Angeles Angels. In his career against current members of the Mariners, he has allowed 27 hits in 90 at-bats with 5 home runs allowed including 2 given up to Kendrys Morales.

For the Mariners, they couldn’t have a better pitcher on the mound than Hernandez. With a 2.18 ERA, 209 strikeouts, and a 0.90 WHIP, he may be the favorite to win the American League Cy Young race. In addition to being just a talented specimen on the mound, he has also been extremely consistent for the Mariners throughout the season. He will be looking to get his 15th win of the season, which would mark only the second time he has reached that figure.
