Monday night, the Houston Astros and Jarred Cosart will face the Detroit Tigers and Max Scherzer.  It will be the 7th starts of the season for both pitchers.

Jarred Cosart comes into this game with a 1- 2 record and an ERA of 5.52.  He missed getting the decision in his last start after a solid 6 inning effort where he gave up 2 runs on 5 hits (including a home run) with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Last season, Cosart was 1-1 with a 1.95 ERA in 10 starts during his rookie campaign.

In 2013, Cosart didn’t face the Tigers and his experience against their lineup is limited to just 2 batters. Both Ian Kinsler and Rajai Davis each have a hit against Cosart.

Max Scherzer picked up his 3rd straight win in his last outing to improve his record to 3 – 1 and his ERA to 2.08.  In that start, Scherzer went six innings without allowing a run as he gave up 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 7.  Last season, Scherzer was an impressive 21 – 3 with an ERA of 2.90 in 32 starts as he claimed the AL Cy Young Award.

In 2013, Scherzer was 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA in 2 starts against the Astros.  In his career, he has been masterful against the Houston lineup, holding them to just a .186 batting average.  But Carlos Corporan could be an issue as he is 2 for 5 with 2 solo homers against Scherzer.
