Friday night, the Houston Astros will give the ball to Scott Feldman as they take on the Baltimore Orioles and Wei-Yin Chen. Feldman will make his 5th start as Chen makes his 7th. 

Scott Feldman returns to the rotation after a bout with biceps tendinitis and will look to continue his solid start to the season.   Feldman’s record fell to 2 – 1 and his ERA rose to just 1.69 after he lost his last start.   In that outing, Feldman went 6 innings and allowed 5 runs on 9 hits with a walk and 2 strikeouts.  Prior to that game, Feldman had only allowed 1 run in 3 starts.  Last season, Feldman was 12 – 12 with an ERA of 3.86 in 30 starts with the Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles.

In 2013, Feldman didn’t face his old team but he has faced the lineup before.  Baltimore’s Delmon Young is 4 of 14 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs against Feldman.

Wei-Yin Chen took the loss in his last start after struggling mightily.  His record fell to 3 - 2 with an ERA of 4.24 after giving up 3 runs on 6 hits (including a homer) with a walk and 5 strikeouts.  Chen’s outing lasted just 5 innings after throwing 108 pitches.  Last season, Chen was 7 – 7 with an ERA of 4.07 in 23 starts.

In 2013, Chen won his only start against the Astros with an ERA of 3.68.  But he will need to watch out for Houston’s   Jose Altuve.  Altuve is 2 of 4 with 2 RBIs against Chen.
