Friday night, Anibal Sanchez (8 - 5, 3.37 ERA) takes the mound for the Detroit Tigers as they face R.A. Dickey (9 -11, 4.03 ERA) and the Toronto Blue Jays.  It will be the 21st start for Sanchez and the 25th for Dickey. 

Anibal Sanchez got the victory in his last start after overpowering the opposition.  Sanchez hurled a shutout for 7 innings and allowed just 2 hits and no walks while striking out a season-best 12 hitters.  The last month has been less than stellar for Sanchez as he has alternated wins and losses en route to a 3 – 3 record in his last 6 starts.  Last season, Sanchez posted a record of 14 – 8 with a 2.57 ERA in 29 starts.

In 2013, Sanchez beat the Blue Jays in his only start against them after holding Toronto to 2 runs and 5 hits in 7 innings.   This season, Sanchez didn’t get the decision against Toronto despite allowing just 2 hits over 7 shutout innings.

R.A. Dickey was defeated in his last start after surrendering 5 runs and 9 hits (including a home run) in 7 innings of work.  Amazingly the knuckleballer didn’t issue any walks as he struck out 3.  But this season has not been great for Dickey and one need only look at his 3 – 7 record in his last 10 starts to understand that.  Last season, Dickey was 14 -13 with a 4.21 ERA in 34 starts.

In 2013, Dickey beat the Tigers in his only start against Detroit behind a 7 inning, 2 run and 6 hit (including a homer) effort.  This season, Dickey beat Detroit after holding them to 2 runs (on 2 solo homers) and 7 hits in 5 innings.
