Right-hander Max Scherzer will be going for his seventh win of the season when he and the Detroit Tigers face Roenis Elias and the Seattle Mariners on Sunday afternoon.

Max Scherzer had his second straight bad outing on Tuesday when he allowed five earned runs against the Oakland Athletics, but he ended up with just a no decision instead of the loss. He gave up eight hits in six innings of work in that game while striking out four and walking two. The reigning AL Cy Young winner has struck out 82 batters in 72 innings this season and owns a 3.00 ERA.

All-Star second baseman Robinson Cano has hit a homer off of Scherzer, but that is one of just two hits he has against him in 13 career at-bats. Kyle Seager is 3-for-7 against Scherzer with one RBI and one strikeout.

Roenis Elias had one of his worst starts of the season last week against the Los Angeles Angels and ended up taking his fourth loss of the year. He gave up a season-high five earned runs on eight hits in that start and struck out five while walking one. Elias is now 3-4 on the season with a 4.02 ERA and he has 57 strikeouts through 65 innings.

All of the Tigers will be facing Elias for the first time in their careers on Sunday.
