Former Cy Young award winner Justin Verlander will look to snap his two-game losing streak when the Detroit Tigers take on Hisashi Iwakuma and the Seattle Mariners.

Right-hander Justin Verlander allowed a season-high six earned runs against the Texas Rangers last weekend and ended up picking up his fourth loss of the season. He gave up 11 hits in that outing and walked three while striking out just one batter. Verlander is giving up more hits per nine innings than he has since his rookie season and his strikeout numbers are far below his career average.

Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano has faced Verlander 39 times in his career and has just nine hits while striking out six times. First baseman Justin Smoak is 4-for-10 against him with two home runs.

In his fifth start of the season on Sunday, Hisashi Iwakuma picked up his first loss of the year when he was beaten by the Houston Astros. He pitched seven innings in that game and allowed four earned runs on nine hits while walking no one and striking out six. Through 37.2 innings this year, he has a 2.39 ERA and has walked just two batters.

Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler really likes facing Iwakuma, going 8-for-20 against him with a double, three home runs and three RBI. Center fielder Rajai Davis has just one hit in nine at-bats against the Japanese right-hander.
