This interleague battle between the San Diego Padres and Detroit Tigers on Sunday at Petco Park will conclude their weekend series. The Tigers will send the 2013 American League Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer to the mound, while the Padres will counter with right hander Tyson Ross.

Scherzer’s reputation in Major League Baseball is well known. He holds a 73-45 career record with a 3.64 ERA including a 52-19 record from 2011-13. He has a 9.44 strikeout per 9 inning ratio and has been steadily getting better since entering the league in 2008. In his career against the current roster of San Diego players, Scherzer has given up just 14 hits in 62 at-bats. He pitched well for the Padres a year ago, recording a 3.17 ERA, despite going just 3-8. The weak San Diego offense made it difficult for him to get victories and in his limited play against the current Tigers has fared terribly. He has allowed 15 hits in 27 at-bats, with a 1.159 opponent OPS.
