Right-hander Justin Verlander (10-10) will attempt to go over .500 for the first time in a month when the Detroit Tigers go up against Jeff Locke (3-3) and the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday.

Justin Verlander had a good outing against the New York Yankees on Wednesday, but he ended up taking the loss after getting just one run from his offense. He allowed just two runs in his seven innings that day while walking one and striking out five. He now has a 4.57 ERA on the year and he has given up 167 hits in 157.2 innings.

Pirates catcher Russell Martin has six hits in 14 at-bats versus Verlander with a home run and two RBI. Andrew McCutchen has just two hits in 13 at-bats against the right-hander with two walks and three strikeouts.

Jeff Locke was able to pick up his first win in a month last Wednesday when he defeated the Miami Marlins at home. He pitched seven innings in that start and gave up three runs on six base hits while walking no one and striking out seven. He now has a 3.78 ERA on the year and he has struck out 56 batters in 81 innings.

Tigers All-Star Miguel Cabrera has two hits in his three at-bats against Locke with two doubles. J.D. Martinez has no hits in five plate appearances against Locke with three strikeouts.
