Thursday afternoon, Rick Porcello (13 – 5, 3.18 ERA) takes the mound for the Detroit Tigers as they face Shane Greene (2 – 1, 3.68 ERA) and the New York Yankees.  It will be the 22nd start for Porcello and the 6th start and 7th appearance for Greene.

Rick Porcello was brilliant in his last start as he added another victory to his stats.  In the win, Porcello surrendered just 2 runs and 5 hits in 8 innings as he walked 2 and struck out a season-high 10. Porcello hasn’t lost in nearly a month and is 5 – 1 in his last 8 starts. Porcello has notched 10 or more wins in every Major League season, including 2013 when he went 13 – 8 with a 4.32 ERA in 29 starts and 3 relief appearances.

Last season, Porcello didn’t get the decision in his only start against the Yankees.  New York is batting .333 against Porcello with 36 hits, 4 homers and 10 RBIs in 108 at-bats.

Shane Greene pitched to his 2nd straight no decision in his last outing after allowing 3 runs and 6 hits (including a home run) in 4.2 innings of work.  He walked 2 and struck out 5.  Greene has surrendered 3 or more runs in his last 3 outings and that’s a big reason why he is 0 – 1 in that span of time.  But with a thin starting rotation, the Yankees will need to see a better effort from Greene going forward.

Greene has never faced the Tigers and will need all of the help that the scouting report can give him.
