Wednesday night, Justin Verlander (10 - 9, 4.66 ERA) gets the call for the Detroit Tigers as they take on Chris Capuano (1 – 2, 4.50 ERA) and the New York Yankees.  Verlander makes his 24th start as Capuano makes his 3rd start and 31st appearance.

Justin Verlander got the win in his last start behind yet another solid start from him this season. Verlander gave up just 2 runs and 8 hits in 8 innings as he struck out 5 without issuing any free passes.  Verlander is 4 -2 in his last 6 starts mainly because he has keep the opposing team getting on the board too frequently.  Last season, Verlander posted a record of 13 – 12 with a 3.46 ERA in 34 starts.

Chris Capuano took the loss his last time out in just his 2nd start of the season after coming over from the Colorado Rockies.  Capuano allowed 4 runs and 8 hits in 6.1 innings of work.  He didn’t issue any walks as he struck out 5.  With the injuries to the Yankees’ starting rotation, Capuano will be counted on for a few more starts as the season draws to its eventual close. This season, Capuano worked from the Boston Red Sox bullpen until he was released on July 1st. He was picked up by the Rockies and made 4 starts in the Minors before getting traded to the Yankees.

Last season, Capuano went 4 - 7 with a 4.26 ERA in 20 starts and 4 relief appearances for the Los Angeles Dodgers.  He’s faced the Tigers twice this season as a reliever and overall, Detroit is batting .422 against him with 27 hits, 7 homers and 15 RBIs in 64 at-bats.
