Reigning Cy Young award winner Max Scherzer (13-3) will look to make it three wins in a row when he and the Detroit Tigers go up against Brandon McCarthy (3-0) and the New York Yankees on Monday night.

Max Scherzer finished the month of July with an undefeated record when he was able to defeat the Chicago White Sox last Wednesday. He pitched seven innings in that start and allowed just one run on five hits while walking one and striking out six. In five July starts, Scherzer was 4-0 with a 2.08 ERA and opposing batters had just a .190 batting average against him.

Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury has five hits in nine career at-bats against Scherzer with a double, a home run and five RBI. Chase Headley is 3-for-12 against him with two walks and four strikeouts.

Right-hander Brandon McCarthy won his third game in his fourth start for the Yankees when he defeated the Texas Rangers on the road last Tuesday. He gave up four earned runs in six innings that day and struck out three batters while walking one. McCarthy has a 4.56 ERA on the season, but he is 3-0 with a 2.55 ERA since being traded to the Yankees.

Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter has eight hits in his 15 at-bats against McCarthy with three doubles, a home run and two RBI. Ian Kinsler is 4-for-18 against him with two walks and two strikeouts.
