On Monday, Max Scherzer (16-5) will try to take over the American League lead in wins when he and the Detroit Tigers go up against right-hander Anthony Swarzak (3-1) and the Minnesota Twins.

Last Tuesday, Max Scherzer pitched 6.2 solid innings against the Kansas City Royals and picked up the win. He gave up just one run on seven base hits in that outing while walking four batters and striking out six. The right-hander now has a 3.19 ERA on the year and he has struck out 10.4 batters per nine innings.

Twins outfielder Chris Parmelee is 5-for-14 against Scherzer in his career with a walk and a double. Third baseman Trevor Plouffe has just one hit in 15 at-bats against him with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Anthony Swarzak last made a start for the Twins back in July when he was able to beat the Cleveland Indians. Since then he has come out of the bullpen for the team. On the year, the right-hander has a 3.95 ERA and he has given up 74 hits in 73 innings on the mound.

Tigers All-Star Miguel Cabrera has six hits in 19 at-bats versus Swarzak in his career with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI. Second baseman Ian Kinsler is 7-for-16 against him in his career with a double, a home run and four RBI.
