Wednesday night the Detroit Tigers will start Anibal Sanchez against the Los Angeles Dodgers and Josh Beckett.   Sanchez will be making his second start of the season as Beckett faces his first action of the 2014 campaign.

The weather delayed Anibal Sanchez’s first start of the year by a day, but he did get the start and he didn’t fare well.  In just 4 innings of work, Sanchez gave up 2 runs (both earned) and 2 hits with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks to earn an ERA of 4.50 and a no decision.  Sanchez threw 69 pitches in the outing and that is way too much for just 4 innings.

His experience against the Dodgers lineup is limited but he will keep an eye on Justin Turner.  Turner has a .400 average with 2 hits in 5 at-bats with an RBI.

Josh Beckett comes into his 14th major league season battling thumb and ankle issues which could affect his performance early on.    Last season, Beckett only started 8 games for the Dodgers with a 0 – 5 record and an ERA of 5.19. 

In 2013, Beckett only faced 7 teams and the Detroit Tigers were not one of them.  Overall, he has faced many of the Tigers.  Torii Hunter has seen Beckett 22 times but Victor Martinez will be the one to watch.  Martinez is batting .375 with 6 hits (including a homer run) and 4 RBIs in 16 at-bats.
