The Detroit Tigers will be taking on the Los Angeles Angels for the third time in their four game series. The Tigers will send Justin Verlander (9-8, 4.84 ERA) while the Angels will counter with Matt Shoemaker (7-3, 4.54 ERA).

Verlander will be looking for his fourth win in five games. In his last outing, Verlander faced the Arizona Diamondbacks and pitched 6.2 innings giving up three earned runs over six hits while striking out five and walking three. After not winning a game in June, Verland is 3-1 in July without pitching much better (5.04 ERA in July).

Verlander will want to be careful when facing Erick Aybar. Aybar is 9-for-27 in his career versus Verlander with two doubles and seven RBI. Mike Trout has only seen Verlander three times and has a homerun in those three at bats.

Shoemaker is coming off his third loss of the season when he faced the Orioles on Monday. He pitched 5.2 innings giving up four earned runs and five hits while striking out 10. Shoemaker's propensity to give up homeruns hurt him again as he gave up two in this game. He'll hope to turn it around when he faces the Tigers.

This will be the first time Shoemaker has faced the Tigers.
