The Detroit Tigers will travel to Angel Stadium of Anaheim to take the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday in the first of a four game series. The Tigers will put Max Scherzer (11-3, 3.34 ERA) on the mound to counter Garrett Richards (11-2, 2.47 ERA) in a matchup of Cy Young hopefuls.

Scherzer was close to being a scratch on Sunday with neck smasms but ended up pitching a season high 118 pitches en route to a no-decision. In this game Scherzer pitched 5.2 innings giving up two runs, with both being homeruns, and struckout four batters while walking four. Scherzer will look to add to his great half by trying to notch a win against the talented Los Angeles Angeles.

Scherzer has pitched well against the Angeles only allowing 19 hits on 85 at bats to the current team. He'll need to watch out for Chris Iannetta as he's batting .364 when facing Scherzer.

Garret Richards is coming off a no-decision after notching five straight wins before that. On Sunday against the Seattle Mariners, Richards pitched eight innings while only allowing one run and striking out seven. Even with that briliiant outing, Richards couldn't get the win but he'll look to keep the momentum going against the Detroit Tigers.

Richards has pitched well versus the Tigers only allowing current Tigers players to hit .190 as a team. Ian Kinsler has hit Richards well going 4-for-13 with two doubles and two RBI.
