Detroit Tigers ace Max Scherzer (16-5), who is 1-0 with a 3.20 ERA this month, will get to face James Shields (14-7) and the Kansas City Royals on Saturday afternoon.

Max Scherzer allowed four runs in seven innings against the Minnesota Twins on Monday and ended up with a no decision. He gave up seven hits in that outing and struck out five batters while walking one. Scherzer currently owns a 3.26 ERA and he has struck out 10.3 batters per nine innings this season.

Royals left fielder Alex Gordon has 14 hits in 36 at-bats versus Scherzer with four doubles, three home runs and five RBI. Eric Hosmer is just 7-for-34 against him in his career with two walks and 10 strikeouts.

In James Shields' start on Monday, he pitched seven innings against the Chicago White Sox and ended up with a no decision. He gave up three runs on 10 base hits in that game and struck out six without walking a batter. Shields now has a 3.15 ERA on the year and he has given up 8.9 hits per nine innings.

Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera has been able to get 19 hits in 52 at-bats against Shields in his career with eight doubles, two home runs and eight RBI. Veteran Rajai Davis is just 2-for-18 against the right-hander with no walks and three strikeouts.
