On Saturday night, Rick Porcello will be going for win number 12 when he and the Detroit Tigers face right-hander James Shields and the Kansas City Royals.

Last Sunday, Rick Porcello had one of his worst starts of the year when he was defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays at home. He went 5.2 innings in that game and gave up seven earned runs on 11 hits while walking one and striking out two. Porcello now has an 11-5 record on the year with a 3.53 ERA and he has only walked two batters per nine innings.

Royals outfielder Alex Gordon has 11 hits in 34 at-bats versus Porcello with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI. Shortstop Alcides Escobar has just one hit off of him in 23 at-bats with five strikeouts.

James Shields pitched seven scoreless innings in his start against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday and won his ninth game of the year. He gave up just three hits in that game and walked one batter while striking out 10. Shields is now 9-4 on the season and he has only walked 27 hitters in 123.2 innings of work.

Like most American League pitchers, Shields does not like facing Miguel Cabrera, who is 19-for-47 against him with eight doubles, two home runs, and eight RBI. Second baseman Ian Kinsler is just 8-for-42 against Shields with three strikeouts.
