Detroit Tigers lefty Drew Smyly will attempt to snap his current two-game losing streak on Thursday night when he faces veteran Jeremy Guthrie and the Kansas City Royals.

Last Friday, Drew Smyly took on the Tampa Bay Rays and ended up taking the loss after giving up five runs in 5.1 innings. He allowed seven hits in that game and walked one batter while striking out three. Smyly has a 4-8 record right now with a 3.89 ERA and he has struck out 68 batters in 81 innings.

Outfielder Alex Gordon has just two hits against Smyly in 17 at-bats and has been struck out by the left-hander nine times. Billy Butler is 6-for-11 against him with a walk and a double.

Jeremy Guthrie had one of his worst starts of the year last Saturday when he was defeated by the Cleveland Indians on the road. He only made it through four innings in that start and gave up six runs on 11 hits while walking two batters and striking out five. Guthrie currently owns a 4.02 ERA and he has given up 121 hits in his 116.1 innings of work.

Reigning American League MVP Miguel Cabrera has 14 hits in his 43 at-bats against Guthrie with three home runs and nine RBI. Outfielder Austin Jackson has just five hits against him in 27 at-bats with two RBI and eight strikeouts.
