On Wednesday, May 20, the Detroit Tigers will travel to Cleveland to take on the Indians. Detroit will send Max Scherzer to the mound to face off with Zach McAllister in an American Central showdown.

Scherzer is coming off a strong performance against the Boston Red Sox in which he pitched six scoreless innings while striking out seven and allowing four walks and three hits. The win put Scherzer’s record at 6-1 with a smoldering 1.83 ERA. After starting the season with two no-decisions and a loss, Scherzer has gone on to win six straight to keep the Tigers at the top of the division. He’ll look for his seventh win when he faces the Indians on Wednesday.

Michael Brantley has played well against Scherzer going 8-for-31 with four doubles, a triple, a home run, and six RBI. As a team, the Indians are batting .229 when facing Scherzer.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, Zach McAllister just got his fourth loss of the season in five games after starting the season 3-0. McAllister gave up eight runs in just 1.1 innings when he faced Oakland on Friday. It’s the fourth time in five games that McAllister has given up at least four earned runs. The run support hasn’t been there for McAllister this year and everyone will be hoping for a better outcome on Wednesday.

Current Tiger hitters are batting .344 when facing McAllister. Detroit’s lineup is dangerous but on the bright side, McAllister hasn’t surrendered a home run against to the Tigers in his career.
