Friday night, Rick Porcello takes the mound for the Detroit Tigers as they face Zach McAllister and the Cleveland Indians.  It will be Porcello’s 14th start and McAllister’s 11th.

Rick Porcello missed getting the decision in his last outing and that held his record at 8 – 4 with a 4.03 ERA.  In that start, Porcello allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 7 innings as he walked 3 and struck out 4.  It was a decent outing for Porcello considering the fact that he had lost his previous 2 starts.  But he is still on pace to match or better last season’s record of 13 – 8 with an ERA of 4.32 in 29 starts and 3 relief appearances. 

In 2013, Porcello was 3 – 0 with a 1.82 ERA in 4 starts against the Tribe.  But in this start, he may want to watch out for Carlos Santana.  Santana is batting .324 with 3 homers and 4 RBIs against Porcello.

 Zach McAllister will be making his 1st start since May 21st after suffering a lower back strain.  He was slated to start on Thursday but the weather pushed his return back a day.  He showed good stuff in his last rehab start and that prompted his return to the big club.  He comes into this start with a 3 – 4 record and a 5.89 ERA.  McAllister started the season with 3 straight wins but since then, he has lost 4 of his last 6 starts. Last season, he went 9 - 9 with a 3.75 ERA in 24 starts.

In 2013, McAllister was 0 – 2 with a 9.00 ERA in 3 starts against the Tigers.  This season, he has a win and a no-decision in 2 starts against Detroit.  His last start before going on the 15 Day DL was against the Tigers and he allowed 5 runs and 5 hits (including 2 homers) in just 2 innings of work.
