Former Cy Young award winner Justin Verlander will take the mound for the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night to face John Danks and the Chicago White Sox.

Last Thursday, Justin Verlander lost for the fifth time this season when he allowed six runs (five earned) in seven innings of work against the Toronto Blue Jays. He gave up eight hits in that outing and walked four while striking out four. This has been Verlander's worst season since 2008 so far. One of the reasons is that he has struck out just 6.4 batters per nine innings, which is 2.5 less than he struck out last year.

White Sox veteran Paul Konerko has never liked facing Verlander, getting just 10 hits against him in 58 at-bats with two home runs and 16 strikeouts. Dayan Viciedo has a .300 batting average against him through 20 at-bats.

Lefty John Danks picked up his fourth win of the season last Wednesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers on the road. He went 7.1 innings in that start and allowed just one run on two base hits while striking out five and walking three. He lowered his ERA to 4.32 with that win and he has given up just 70 hits in 75 innings.

Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter has 15 hits in his 46 at-bats against Danks with two doubles, three home runs and nine RBI.
